He Who Began A Good Work…
“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:3-6.
This December has been a month of thanksgiving for sure! And I can’t continue without thanking all of you, prayer warriors, for the consistent support you guys give Calvary Chapel Cajabamba & I. Together, we are able to share the gospel to the ends of the earth! Thank you!
We kicked off December with Christmas for Cajabamba. We visited two local schools: School for Under Privileged Kids & Preschool La Pampa. We were able to spend time with the kids, sing Christmas Carols, perform dramas, enjoy hot chocolate & fruitcake, & share the gospel. We then passed out some of the gifts that were donated. It was so much fun to watch these kids playing with their new toys. To see their faces as they unwrapped their gifts was definitely the best part of the day.
The second weekend in December, we had our first Calvary Chapel Cajabamba show at a local theatre. This show was geared to the unsaved community. It was a free show that four acts. The first act of the show was a performance of a Spanish version of Jingle Bell Rock by the Sunday School kids of the church. The second was a total surprise for the city of Cajabamba. Sandra & Juan Alegre, Jeff & Olivia Peters, Marisa Lucos, & I had been secretly practicing Marinera, a Peruvian folk dance, prior to this show; and that was the second act. The third act was a couple of kids from our church performing another Marinera dance. The final act was a play: La Verdadera Navidad (The Real Christmas), put on by our very own youth group. I had the privilege of writing & directing this play and I couldn’t have been anymore blessed. To see the youth find their gifts & talents through every rehearsal & bond with one another in the faith was something you can’t replace with anything in this world. I am so thankful that God used this whole event to share the gospel with the City of Cajabamba, God’s city.
We also reached out to the Elementary School in Colcas and included the whole community in the show. We were able to sing some Christmas Carols & drink hot chocolate, but the greatest surprise of the outreach was when the students sang Peruvian folk songs and danced in their native outfits. It was a sight to see! After the kids shared their songs, Sandra, Juan, Jeff & I were able to give the people of Colcas a small gesture of our love for them & Peru by dancing our Marinera choreography. After we danced, Pastor Juan had the opportunity to share the gospel and about 80 people received Jesus. This was definitely the highlight of the day!
The following Saturday, we had the last men’s breakfast before 2015. This last Bible Study, the men celebrated the birth of Jesus together & shared their testimonies of what God has been doing in their lives this past year. That same day, in the afternoon the youth celebrated the Holidays by going to the Old Folks Home. There, the kids sang some Christmas Carols to the Elderly and gave them sweaters & scarves for the cold weather. But the best thing was watching the youth give these grandparents the love of Jesus. It was so encouraging to watch the youth live out what God is teaching them. After leaving the Old Folks Home, we returned to the church to enjoy our very own Christmas Party. We had dessert, played ninja, & had our white elephant gift exchange. It was a great time of outreach & fellowship.
The next day, Sunday, we had our Christmas Celebration at the church. It was a Sunday service full of surprises. We started the service the usual way, singing praises to the Lord. Then Yamaly Alfaro & Roy Ramal, two Bible college students from our church, gave their testimonies about how God brought them from death to life. It was such a blessing to hear personal stories of God speaking into two young people’s lives. Afterwards, the Sunday school kids sang & danced to a Spanish Version of Jingle Bell Rock. It was adorable! We also sang Silent Night and lit candles to sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. It was so beautiful. But the greatest part of the day was when the Sunday School kids received their awards for being diligent to memorize verses, invite a friend, & bring their bibles to church. Some received paint kits, scooters, dolls, toy cars, & bikes depending on how well they did. It was so awesome to see these kids enjoy the reward of their hard work. To end the service, we blessed the food that was brought by different people in the church & we all broke bread together (Acts 2:42). Overall, this was an incredible holiday season, where the main reason for the season was proclaimed throughout all of Cajabamba.
Please Keep in Prayer:
For the hearts of the people of Cajabamba to be sensitive to the knocking of the Holy Spirit and for them to want a relationship with Jesus
To be the aroma of Christ to my neighbors, friends, acquaintances, and anyone I come in contact with.
For financial provision and to be a good steward with all that He gives me.
For the Lord to put in my path the people that are ready to have a relationship with Him
For the new ministries & activities that have begun at the church, that the Lord would continue to bear fruit from it and the people who come would become more established in their newfound faith.
For the new youth ministry that has just begun. That the youth would hear God’s voice and enjoy a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That would continue to grow and tell their friends about Jesus so more can come to know Him; and so this next generation can be raised up in the name of Jesus Christ.
For male youth leaders to come and disciple all these youth and to teach them what it means to follow Christ wholeheartedly.
For VBS, summer camp, for ages 6-14 that will be enjoying biblical teachings & activities for two weeks. The dates are February 9-20th. For the kids to hear & be changed by the gospel throughout those weeks. For safety & protection for all the kids, leaders, & volunteers.
For all the planned events happening during this summer for the youth. For the kids to grow in their faith as they seek out the Will of the Lord for their lives; & that they would put their faith into practice.
For time-management as activities and daily tasks need to be accomplished.
For the Lord to continue working in the villages of Migma & Chichir. That though they threw us out, the seeds that were planted there would continue to grow and bear fruit.
For the new believers to fall more in love with Jesus everyday and develop a devotional time with Him.
For team unity as we seek to serve the Lord together; that we would be alert and attentive to the Spirit’s leading and really love one another so that people can see Jesus through our relationships.
For vision & direction for what God wants us to do & focus on in 2015.
